April – Jamieson Property Search

April daffodils in Norfolk

I have to confess I am a bit confused by this weather – freezing cold and rainy one minute – and then bright sunshine and a suntan warmness the next! My son asked me the other morning if it was Summer yet and although this recent sunshine has hopefully been a taste of things to come, I had to assure him that no, it wasn’t summer quite yet and that we are still in the throes of Spring. I am sure – much like Mole in The Wind in the Willows who relishes his spring cleaning after the winter – that many people are also spring cleaning – either making the most of the warm winds to get the washing on the line, or perhaps even with a view to putting their house on the market now this clement weather makes looking for houses more fun and shows off homes at their best.
I am thoroughly enjoying being based at Stody and am happy to say I have had lots of telephone calls to follow up and am being kept more than busy with houses to look at. One property for sale boasts of a large, old brick barn in the grounds that could double up as any number of things – large garage space for cars or boats, a fantastic games room perhaps for teenage children – or an office, the possibilities are endless.

However, when clearing this barn out to show potential buyers the owners came across a large chest freezer in one corner that they had never noticed before as there had been an old pony cart stuck in front of it. On closer inspection a highly disagreeable stench became apparent as they noticed the freezer had become unplugged at some point over the last however many years. The wife ran out of the barn clutching her nose and the husband was brave enough to open the lid…(could this be some grim murder discovery straight from the pages of a cheap and nasty crime novel?) – the freezer was jammed packed with an assortment of old game – patridge, pheasants, rabbits and the like – only just recognisable as now it has become a gelatinous pile of putrid ‘matter’! I am assured the smell was unlike anything else the owner had ever smelt in his life and was even worse once the contents were set alight on a bonfire!

There may be people staying in a Kett cottage who are first time visitors to Norfolk or returning to a place they have come to love and they may even decide to buy their own house as a weekend bolt hole, or move to this wonderful County full time. I am happy to reiterate my offer to provide a case of delicious Edward Parker champagne for any lead or introduction that results in a sale – it’s got to be worth it surely?!
