Here are a few suggestions of things to do in Norfolk this summer that perhaps you may not have tried before:
- On a sunny day, why not visit Norfolk lavender – England’s premiere lavender farm. Discover the secrets of their lavender fields, harvest and distilling process. The scent of lavender whilst walking through the fields is worth the visit alone!
- Pack a picnic and sit in the grounds of one of the largest and best-preserved monastic sites in England – Castle Acre. Alternatively you could have lunch at the very good Ostrich Inn after looking round the priory and grounds including the reconstructed Monk’s herb garden.
- Head along to the beautiful gardens and enchanting tea rooms of Narborough Hall. The gardens themselves were designed by award winning Joanne Merrison.
- Catch the island ferry from Burnham Overy Staithe to Scolt Head Island, take a picnic and a rug and spend a lovely day on one of the prettiest and most unspoilt spots in Norfolk.
- Bircham windmill. You can hire bikes to tour the countryside, pet some friendly farm animals and even bake your own bread in this working windmill that dates back to 1846.
- Coast hopper tour. Tour the coast via bus or why not walk one way and get the bus back. Perfect if you fancy a long lunch in one of the fantastic coastal pubs.
- Listen to live music at the Hunstanton bandstand. Buy an icecream, sit down on the grass and listen to some top quality music for free. Full details of who’s performing and when will be listed on our website closer to the time.
- Bid for antiques and nick-nacks at the auctions on the green in Burnham Market every Monday during the summer. Afterwards, pop into the Hoste Arms for a coffee in their comfortable lounge area (or a pint of local Wherry in their cosy bar!) or take a potter around the village with its charming local shops.
- Sit on the picturesque green in Aldborough and watch the cricket matches whilst enjoying a pint from one of the local pubs. Games are generally every other Saturday from 1st May until September.
- Try something different and go along to a truly traditional end of pier show – the ‘Seaside Special’ at Cromer Pavilion Theatre. They have replaced what was originally a corny line up with a really professional cast and wonderful show that appeals to all ages.
