Holt

This is a magnificent Georgian town in North Norfolk between Cromer and Fakenham and is well worth a visit. There is always a bustling and lively atmosphere here, although if you want a bit more tranquillity, Holt Country Park is walking distance away, with 100 acres of woodland that is popular with dog walkers and nature lovers.

The town itself contains many hidden yards, which contain a fascinating mix of shops and cafes along with many other clothes and gift shops, galleries, a deli, hardware store, hairdressers, post office and a number of pubs. Byfords is a well known café and deli and has seating outside on the pavement which gives it an almost Mediterranean feel – perfect for people watching! From the market place in the centre of Holt you can catch the London red bus which takes passengers to the North Norfolk Railway station, a little way out of the town centre. This is the "poppy line" which runs steam and diesel train services to the nearby coastal towns of Weybourne and Sheringham.

Holt is situated inland but there are many wonderful places to visit along the coast not far from here – Blakeney, Wiveton, Cley, Salthouse, Morston and Holkham. You could happily spend days exploring this beautiful coastline and enjoying any number of activities along the way. Bird watching, sailing, boat trips to see the seals around the nature reserve of Scolt Head Island, crabbing along the quay, golfing, walking along the coastal pathways, fruit picking, horse riding… the list is endless. Kett Country Cottages have a number of delightful properties in and around Holt and will have something to suit all your requirements – however long you might like to stay.Around Holt you may notice many names and images of an owl. This refers to the local legend of an owl that would disturb the residents of Holt and yet always escaped capture whenever they tried to stop it! The Owl tearoom is situated near the War Memorial and is a great old fashioned tearoom that serves delicious cakes and scones as well as other delicious treats.

Holt is also lucky enough to have the Auden Theatre not far away, situated along the Holt Road, in the grounds of the impressive Gresham’s Senior School. This theatre is open to the public and is named for an Old Greshamian, the famous poet W.H Auden. They hold regular concerts and theatrical performances here. As well as the Holt Festival in the summer, why not come and visit the amazing Holt Christmas lights in the winter? Holt is lit up by magical white fairy lights and many travel here especially to see them, never failing to feel festive as a result! At the Thursford Museum, just over six miles away, a Christmas Spectacular is staged each year. With a backdrop of antique steam trains and fairground attractions, this is the ultimate Christmas musical experience – a blend of exciting entertainment, Christmas songs and carols, dazzling dancers, beautiful costumes and outstanding music and singing.

So whatever time of year you come to holiday in Holt – let Kett Country Cottages find the perfect holiday accommodation for you and make it a trip to remember.
