Surrounded by luscious countryside in the medieval village of Thorpland, this stately yet comfortable country house is the perfect base for a retreat with family and friends. Sleeping eight across four bedrooms, there is plenty of space to celebrate a special occasion or get away from the busy rush of modern life. Spend sunny afternoons walking along the coast or relaxing on the beach - those with dogs will love the variety of nature reserves and parks nearby.

This charming cottage still retains many of its original features, from exposed beams to warming fireplaces. Put on your chef hat in the spacious and well-equipped country kitchen with a central breakfast island. There is a more formal dining room too, ideal for events or celebrations. Two comfortable living rooms ensure that everyone has space to relax, with a wood burner and leather sofas in the first, while the second has a further wood burner and plenty of comfortable seating for having a family film night. Kids will love the den, which has another TV and ample beanbags. Upstairs you’ll find four attractive bedrooms which have a more modern feel, and the shower room and family bathroom ensure you are refreshed after a day of walking in the countryside. Dine alfresco in the enclosed, walled garden accessed via the kitchen, and explore the 2 acres of land beyond which is not enclosed.

There are plenty of walks nearby, from Thetford Forest Park 18 miles to the south to the Wash National Nature Reserve 19 miles to the north. Spend a day out at Sandringham Estate (14 miles), wandering through 40 acres of gardens, as well as nature trails and woodlands. Nearby Snettisham Beach (20 miles) is perfect for a calming seaside walk. Just 8.5 miles away is King’s Lynn, a historic town with a lovely selection of shops and eateries.

  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £350 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £40. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

The Cottage was a very nice period building with large gardens and a long drive, keeping road noise to a minimum. Some maintenance issues could have been dealt with before our stay. As the building is very old, the upper floors are uneven, making it awkward for elderly or infirm visitors. By far the best holiday, we have had in the UK. A plethora of birds visiting the garden, muntjac dear passing the dining room window every evening. Patio area catches the sun nearly all day, and no traffic noise, very dog friendly, hopefully will revisit later this year or next year.

We enjoyed a lovely long weekend here, fantastic setting and exactly as we had hoped. Very private location. The property itself is very warm and welcoming even on a cold December day. Lovely cottage. Very spacious for two families to share. The twin and smaller double room have a connecting door (not mentioned in the description). Our kids loved this! Yes the phone reception is very poor but there is WiFi in the lounge. Plenty of crockery and cutlery which is unusual for a holiday rental. Good house for dog lovers but as we don'Read moret have dogs I probably noticed the dirty floors and dog biscuits getting stuck to my feet and socks more than others might. This is an amazing cottage, with all you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. The owner was really helpful and kind. Peaceful location, with excellent walking opportunities, and good road links to amenities. It's possible to walk to the local shop, but only if you don't mind it taking an hour! We loved this property. There were 8 of us who stayed and there was plenty of room for everyone. It was perfect for our dog - who is fear aggressive with strangers and other dogs - as it's at the end of a lane so there was no passing traffic or walkers, and a fully enclosed garden meant we could let him out to explore without any worries. We would definitely revisit. This is a lovely old family house, modernised but with many original features. There is lots of space for everything that a family of 6 with 3 small children and a dog bring on holiday. Lovely old farmhouse in a quiet position. Great for dogs as there is a large utility area capable of housing dog crate and another dog bed. Rear garden dog proof and plenty of dog bowls available. We had a lovely week at Thorpeland House. It was a perfect place for a family get together and we enjoyed the space which the house offered. It was comfortable and well equipped. The enclosed back garden was particularly good for our dog and we were able to let him explore while we enjoyed breakfasts in the sun on the patio. A lovely house, a little more tired than the photos indicate but very cosy. Very impressed with the efficient radiators. The wild garden is just lovely and we saw deer, rabbits and an array of birds which are encouraged into the garden with bird feeders. The kitchen is very well stocked with cooking equipment.
